SUNDAY: Alhamdulillah, we have reached the last country before Saudi Arabia, Sudan.
We were fortunate to witness the ‘Two Niles’. This is the country where the Nile actually splits. The ‘Blue-Nile’ and the ‘White-Nile’… Very beautiful to see… A massive amount of water flowing with massive bridges built over it.
Khartoum is a city that is undergoing great development and changes. The roads have been upgraded and new buildings have come up, where previously there was no formal structure as such.
Sudan is a country that is undergoing much political turmoil as well. Most of the trouble is happening in the South. However, the people here are very hospitable and helpful. There is no sense of differentiation between the tribes and Muslim & Non-Muslims. The people seem to be united and friendly with one another, unlike what we hear and read in the media. In fact, in one family we found ten different tribes inter-married with one another.
The person who came to fetch us from the airport was a very high-ranking lawyer in Sudan. At first we had thought that he was just a driver sent by Br Abdul Faatih, our host, to get us. But when he took us to his offices we were surprised to see that he was the actual owner of a top law-firm, with many people working under him. Such a high-ranking person, yet so humble to even carry our bags for us!!! SUBHAANALLAH!
Our host, Br Abdul Faatih is a banker. He too, is a very humble person indeed. As we mentioned he took us to his home; where we performed Jumuah Salaah together and thereafter participated in the Thikr Majlis which they have after every Salaah… an Exhilarating experience indeed.
A whole lag of lamb was provided for us amongst other delicacies. I do not think that we would be able to match their hospitality and really we will never be able to thank our brothers for their hospitality and generosity.
We were in Khartoum from Friday to Sunday, making bookings and following the processes. The bookings for the ship from Port Sudan must be made in Khartoum. The ship was delayed for a little while due to maintenance.
We are waiting for the confirmation to leave. There are about 200 000 people going to Haj from Sudan. Br Abdul Faatih is helping us all the way.
It is winter in Sudan with temperatures reaching 35c to 45c. Life is very simple. Water is freely available; the Nile water is very sweet. The people are always dressed in Islamic attire. People as old as ninety play with their young children. The family structure is well maintained. The fruits are also very tasty.
